Fusion of classical music and video

On November 8, 2025, “Visual Harmony for All ~A New Art Experience Interwoven by Classical Music and Digital Art~” was held at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Small Hall. It is an experimental performance in which images are projected onto the stage to accompany the performance of classical music, and the sound and video of the performance are appreciated.
In order to allow those who cannot hear, have difficulty hearing, cannot see, and have difficulty seeing enjoy the concert, the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan has prepared a variety of appreciation support and welcomed customers.

The moment sound takes shape

The video direction and lighting were handled by the Abstract Engine team. The creative team designed a variety of experiences, from on-screen to physical spaces. By analyzing the data of performances by piano and percussion instruments, the structure and tempo of the music are expressed in images, and the loudness of the sound and the image are synchronized to create a feeling as if the sound is taking shape.
In Falla’s “Dance of the Fire Festival”, two piano performances and video flame particles swirled, in Ravel’s “Play of Water”, ripples spread, geometric images unfolded on the stage to the rhythm of “Bolero”, and the entire space of the small hall was enveloped in music and images.

So that everyone can have a rich time

For this performance, we have prepared a variety of tools to support appreciation in order to deliver to customers the “open viewing experience” that Tokyo Bunka Kaikan is working on.
The “Touch the Sound Picnic” is a handheld device that converts sound into vibrations, which are transmitted as vibrations. In addition, we aimed to make the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan a place where everyone can spend a rich time, such as a list of songs in Braille and enlarged letters, and for those who have difficulty seeing, they can experience the “visual aid device Letissa on Hand”.
In response to the voice that “using equipment makes your hands tired”, this time we are trying to borrow cushions, and we are repeatedly listening to the voices of users.

Experience feeling the sound

We received voices that each customer felt that they enjoyed this concert, which combines music and video.
“It became easier to grasp abstract images concretely,” “It was an interesting experience to be able to experience the sound,” and “I don’t know about music, but I wondered if it was like this,” and so on.

A place where everyone can enjoy it anytime

This time, university students with hearing impairments visited the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. And after enjoying the concert, I listened to the story. “I was able to enjoy the shape and image of music not only by listening to music”, “I thought I couldn’t enjoy music, but I was able to enjoy it because there was a video this time”, along with voices such as “I have hearing loss, so I can hear music somehow, but I wonder if deaf people can enjoy this performance. There is a consciousness that classical music must be quiet, and the hurdles are high for deaf and hard of hearing people. I thought it would be nice to have more work that everyone can enjoy together,” “It was difficult to understand the video with just the cube, and I think it would be better to see the image more clearly in the high and low tones.” While facing the feedback and criticism from customers through this concert one by one, the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan’s challenge to ensure that everyone can enjoy art and culture continues.
